The shoulder is just too narrow where the big lorries pass by, so you really feel them right beside you.

And then the cycle path just sort of stops short before you actually reach the station, which makes that last bit awkward.

Comment 7
If there's a proper cycleway that runs the whole way to the station, it would just take the stress out of the trip, especially on dark or wet days.

Comment 8
First is that it goes the full distance right up to the station, so you don't end up dumped back into traffic for the last stretch.

Comment 9
that there's enough space or separation between cyclists and the heavy lorries, so you don't feel like you're squeezing past each other.

Comment 10
Just that it connects seamlessly right into the station area, maybe straight to where the bike parking is, so there's no confusion or awkward kerbs to hop.

Comment 11
And if there’s room for some kind of clear separation or a decent barrier from the lorries, that would be ideal.

Comment 12
Good lighting along it for the winter mornings would be a great bonus too, but mainly just making sure it's unbroken and wide enough.

Comment 13
Definitely that final stretch just before the station where the cycle path currently ends.

Comment 14
That's the most awkward bit because you're suddenly mixed in with all the traffic and buses trying to turn into the station area.

Comment 15
If it's a direct, unbroken path that keeps me safely away from the lorries, and it's kept usable year-round, that’s all I need.

Honestly, it just comes down to reliability and safety.

Hello. Thank you for sharing your views on Road 263 through Märsta – traffic safety and accessibility improvements. The conversation takes about ten minutes. I will ask about how you use the area and what matters to you. You can skip questions and finish whenever you like. Before anything is submitted, you will see a summary that you can change. To start, tell me a little: what is your connection to the area around the road? Do you live here, work here, or pass through on your way somewhere else?
Resident
Hi there. Yeah, I live right on Västra Bangatan, have done for about four years now. I work as an aircraft technician, so I cycle down to the station pretty much every day in all kinds of weather to catch the train to work. So I use that stretch constantly.
Interviewer
You cycle to the station along Västra Bangatan in all kinds of weather. How does the traffic feel along that stretch when you are out on your bicycle?
Resident
To be honest, it gets a bit tight at times. The shoulder is just too narrow where the big lorries pass by, so you really feel them right beside you. And then the cycle path just sort of stops short before you actually reach the station, which makes that last bit awkward. Since I'm out there in all weather, will the new cycleway be cleared of snow in winter?
Interviewer
I don't know, but I will pass the question on to the project. How does the road project affect your everyday life and your travels along the stretch?
Resident
Fair enough, thanks for passing that on. As for the project, if it actually sorts out those gaps, it would make my daily commute a lot smoother and safer. Right now, it's just that bit of hassle every morning and evening, having to share that tight space with heavy traffic. If there's a proper cycleway that runs the whole way to the station, it would just take the stress out of the trip, especially on dark or wet days.
Interviewer
A continuous cycleway would take the stress out of your daily commute to the station, especially in poor weather. What matters most to you for these measures to work well for you?
Resident
Mainly two things, really. First is that it goes the full distance right up to the station, so you don't end up dumped back into traffic for the last stretch. And second, that there's enough space or separation between cyclists and the heavy lorries, so you don't feel like you're squeezing past each other. If it's continuous and wide enough, that's really all it takes to make it work.
Interviewer
You want a continuous and wide cycleway that goes all the way to the station without any gaps or tight spaces. What suggestions or wishes do you have for the final design of the route?
Resident
Just that it connects seamlessly right into the station area, maybe straight to where the bike parking is, so there's no confusion or awkward kerbs to hop. And if there’s room for some kind of clear separation or a decent barrier from the lorries, that would be ideal. Good lighting along it for the winter mornings would be a great bonus too, but mainly just making sure it's unbroken and wide enough.
Interviewer
You want the cycleway to connect seamlessly to the bike parking at the station with a good barrier from the lorries and clear lighting. When you think about the whole stretch along your commute, is there any specific spot where the new cycleway or junction changes would make the biggest difference for you?
Resident
Definitely that final stretch just before the station where the cycle path currently ends. That's the most awkward bit because you're suddenly mixed in with all the traffic and buses trying to turn into the station area. Fixing that spot and giving cyclists a dedicated lane right to the end would make the biggest difference by far.
Interviewer
Fixing that final stretch before the station with a dedicated lane for cyclists would make the biggest difference for your commute. What matters most for these measures to work well in your everyday life?
Resident
Honestly, it just comes down to reliability and safety. If it's a direct, unbroken path that keeps me safely away from the lorries, and it's kept usable year-round, that’s all I need. It just makes the daily commute something you don't even have to think about, no matter what the weather is doing.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and taking part in this consultation. The next step is that I will put together a summary of what we have discussed. You will be able to review and change it before anything is submitted. All submitted comments become part of the consultation and are addressed in the consultation report.
